The golden rules for growth hacking
Another year, another catchphrase, and this year seems to be the year of the growth hack. We’re never the ones to buy into the latest trends and start using an alien language that makes the simplest meetings a complete tongue twisterthon, but we think growth hacking is something to pay close attention to. As an award winning hackathon team, we’ll be adding a lot of valuable noise to the subject of growth hacking in 2016...
We recently attended a talk by young growth hacking guru Vincent Dignan about what he knows of the word that’s on everyone’s lips. Vincent knows growth with a team of 750+ writers who have written content for the likes of Mercedes, Burberry, Levi’s, and Smirnoff. With page views and engagement for both his content and his clients reaching astronomical levels, we wanted to know his golden rules for growth, and in true growth hacker style we’ve condensed and presented his golden nuggets in share worthy, bite size chunks. Luckily for us and you, the first rule of growth club isn’t don’t talk about growth club. The first rule, and one that must ruminate through all others, is that hacks must be SCALABLE, REPEATABLE and PREDICTABLE (repeat chorus).
Speak to customers and define messaging before you go viral.
Investigate and map channels starting from easiest to hardest.
Get S.M.A.R.T goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Based.
Don't sweat the small things in the early stages of your plan, everything doesn't have to be perfect straight away.
Be a mixture of mad men and math men. Have bold ideas but make sure everything is thought through thoroughly.
Pour more resources into hacks that work for you. Don't waste time and money on things that aren't working. Pour resource in and pull resource out with equal gusto.
Rinse and repeat. Replicate your wins again, again and again.
Focus on six main channels of user acquisition: IRL, Social Media Sites, Social News Sites, Content, SEO and Email.
Hack social media 'trending' algorithm then your network to repost/ share your post at the same time - increasing natural reach.
With Facebook, the more like/shares you get in the first 10 mins of posting the better as Facebook will make your post more visible and it will be broadcasted to more people as it's getting a high amount of likes/shares in a short period of time.
Don’t forget to Tweet. Companies that use Twitter (on average) double the amount of leads per month.
Don’t be afraid to share (ahem, steal) the good content on social media. Anything you think ads value to your own day will do exactly the same for your audience and requires little resource.
